Issued by City of York Council
Essential improvement works will be carried out from next week to install additional pedestrian crossing facilities in the Fishergate Ward.
The aim of the scheme is to make it more easily accessible and safer to walk between St Georges Field car/coach park and the Barbican. Improvements will be made to Paragon Street, Fawcett Street and George Street junctions, as well as general improvements to the existing footways in the area. The scheme will also simplify and improve the appearance of the road layout next to Fishergate Bar.
As with any construction work, there will be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience, and everything reasonably possible will be done to minimise the impact. Drivers and cyclists are asked to bear this in mind when planning their journey times and route.
The works will begin on Wednesday 13 February and last for approximately six to eight weeks.
City of York Council will be carrying out the works and will be responsible for public safety.
