There’s a distinct lack of information about the personnel in La Petite Mort, an intriguing and somewhat obscure York band that revels in psychedelia.

All we know for sure is that Charlie Swainston is a driving force… and they deliver hooky soundscapes that are attracting a strong local following.

We’re expecting big things from a band that won’t be obscure for much longer.

Bad TV and trashy mags

Anti-folk, folk-punk and indie lo-fi pioneers Bored Housewife

Bored Housewife are Justin McKeown, Meabh McDonnell, Rob Harrington and Ed Harrington.

Justin and Meabh are originally from Belfast, and the band now divide their time between York and Leeds.

They describe their sound as folk, anti-folk, folk-punk and indie lo-fi. So that just about covers half the possible genres.

The dark, happy, twisted songs on their latest album The Bin Hoaker Chronicles are inspired by, in their words, “endless amounts of bad television, trashy magazines, girls from metal bands, trips to cheap supermarkets, pound stores, weird people in bars and computer games”.
