If you open a Christmas card like this, well done – you’re a mate of the Mayor’s. Lord Mayor of York Cllr Julie Gunnell held a contest to find a design for her cards and it was won by Roisin Camplin, aged eight, of Upper Poppleton.

For her prize, Roisin was shown around the Lord Mayor’s official residence, the Mansion House. Her card will now be landing on the doormats of local businesses, schools and other organisations, as well as those of other mayors around the country.

“Congratulations to Roisin for her festive design which showed York’s city centre at its best,” Coun Gunnell said.

She praised Roisin “for producing such a great design which I am proud to send city-wide as well as to fellow Lord Mayors across the country”.
