Castle Howard has seen some unusual sites in its 300 year history – but nothing like this.
Not only did the DeLorean time machine from Back To The Future land on the stately home’s front lawn – a stormtrooper from Star Wars turned up too.
The bizarre convergence of ancient and futuristic was all to promote this year’s Kaboom firework spectacular.
Movie memorabilia – including the DeLorean – will be on display at the event, which this year takes place not on Guy Fawkes Night, but Halloween, October 31.
The big screen theme continues with the fireworks display itself. It will be synchronised to a medley of theme tunes, including the Sam Smith song which heralds the return of 007 this year in Spectre.
Film – and fright – fun
An outdoor screening of Back To The Future – celebrating its 30th anniversary this year – will be part of the pre-firework entertainment.
And to celebrate Halloween, activities like spooky storytelling and pumpkin carving will be laid on, as well as fire-glow jugglers, a traditional vintage funfair, a steam organ, and seasonal Halloween and bonfire night food.
The Castle Howard house will be illuminated to provide a suitably colourful backdrop.
Mark Brayshaw from Rockin’ Horse Promotions, organisers of the event said:
With a movie theme visitors can expect the thrills, sights and sounds of big screen entertainment and the chance to get up close to some of their favourite film characters and movie memorabilia, including the DeLorean time machine.
