The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York and the Civic Party are celebrating Yorkshire Day on 1 August and are participating in the regional celebrations, held this year in Skipton.
The event which is organised by the Yorkshire Society and Skipton Town Council will see the Civic Party join other mayors from around the county in a Civic parade, a celebratory church service and special luncheon.
Meanwhile in York, celebrations will also be taking place. They include members of the Yorkshire Ridings Society walking a circuit of the Bar Walls with the Yorkshire Flag, and reading the Yorkshire “declaration of integrity” at a number of points along the route.
The Deputy Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Keith Hyman, will join the celebration and will read the final declaration in Parliament Street at 1pm.
To mark the occasion the Yorkshire flag will be flying above the Mansion House.
The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Julie Gunnell: “I am delighted to be attending the regional celebrations for Yorkshire Day in Skipton.
“Yorkshire day is a great concept to commemorate the heritage in the county of Yorkshire. The event promises to be a huge celebration of all things Yorkshire and will be particularly poignant as the county is less than one year away from hosting the largest annual sporting event in the world, the Tour de France.”
