The Speakers’ Corner returns to York community pub the Golden Ball on Wednesday (July 9), with poet, playwright, cult crime novelist and (most importantly of all) YorkMix writer, Helen Cadbury.

Helen is a writer of poems, plays and prose. Her poetry has been published in Staple Magazine, two Cinnamon Press anthologies and an Arvon International Competition anthology.

Her 2012 novel To Catch A Rabbit, was a winner in the inaugural Northern Crime competition.

Open mic slots are available for poets, storytellers, prose writers, raconteurs, comedians – they even let in the occasional musician…

Sign up on the door before 8pm for an open mic slot. You get up to five minutes to perform whatever you like, in front of a friendly, enthusiastic and receptive audience.

  • Speakers Corner takes place at the Golden Ball on Cromwell Road on the second Wednesday of every month. Admission is £1
