Balloons and cheers brightened up a grey Friday morning as York celebrated a special shop opening.

Not only did it mark the moment when The Works moved into the Coppergate Centre – it was also the opening of the gift chain’s 400th store.

And to celebrate, the company is giving away four £100 gift vouchers via its Facebook page competition.

Significant milestone

An archway of balloons, themed in the blue and yellow store branding, was created outside the shop’s front door ready for the traditional ribbon cutting.

That was performed by James Woolley, a partner from Endless – the major shareholder in The Works – and the new store’s manager Tom Grady.

Also there to witness the celebrations was Richard Palmer, the store’s divisional manager north.

A spokesman for the firm said:

It marks another significant milestone in the journey of The Works.

We would like to wish Tom Grady and his team every success. We know they are going to offer a very special level of customer service to the people of York and make the store a huge success.

Going local…

So shiny and new!

The Works describes itself as “Britain’s leading discount High Street store” selling a range of books, toys, arts & crafts and gifts.

In Coppergate it also has a prominent display of York-related merchandise, ranging from Monopoly to fridge magnets.
