Another York city centre shop has shut.

Today’s Express on Goodramgate is the latest to close its doors for good.

The newsagent and convenience store opened in the former Maynews shop more than four years ago.

Selling drinks, snacks, tobacco, newspapers and magazines, Today’s Express has always faced tough competition from Tesco Express almost directly opposite.

A mounting number of shops have closed in York city centre.

On Monday, YorkMix reported how the owner of Toymaster on Market Street, blamed expensive business rates, parking costs and stag and hen parties putting off customers for the shop’s recent closure.

Chairman of the York Retail Forum Phil Pinder has called on the newly-elected councillors to work together with retailer “to ensure our city remains a great place for business to thrive”.
