Here’s some good retailing news for a change.
Coney Street’s newest shop will open in a matter of days.
The Entertainer toy shop is due to open on December 15 – a week on Saturday.
And that will give shoppers ten days to browse and buy before Christmas Day.
Staff are now busy stocking the shelves in the 3,100sq ft store with all manner of games, books and toys.
And The Entertainer is promising a ‘Grand Opening Party’, complete with balloons, competitions and toy demos.
Retailing success story
The Entertainer was founded in 1981 by husband and wife team Gary and Catherine Grant. It has more than 140 stores in the UK and six international stores.
It describes its mission as “to be the best-loved toy shop – one child, one community at a time”.
The chain sells everything from dolls and action figures to art sets and electronic games. Traditional toys like water pistols and jigsaws are sold alongside slime, robots and remote control cars.
A retailing success story, in October the business today posted a 38% year-on-year profit increase for the 12-month period ending January 2018.
And after a number of big shops pulled out of Coney Street – recently deposed as York’s most popular shopping street – the store opening will be welcomed across the city.
