If you’re a coffee and pastry sort of person, then Foss Islands retail park could be a future port of call.
Greggs and Starbucks are planning to move into what was the old Frankie & Benny’s restaurant at the shopping centre.
This Anglo-US double header will revitalise the single storey building, which has lain empty since Frankie & Benny’s shut in 2016, one of 41 closed by owners The Restaurant Group.
The news also brings some much-needed positivity for the Foss Islands retail park.
Last month YorkMix broke the news that DIY chain Homebase was closing its store there.
The closing date for that store is July 4.
News that bakery and food-on-the-go retailer Greggs and Seattle coffee powerhouse Starbucks were on their way came in planning documents submitted to City of York Council.
The unit was split into two following the demise of Frankie & Benny’s. Unit 1 has a ground floor of just over 2,000 sq ft, and Unit 2 of 1,700 sq ft.
When it was a restaurant it catered for 175 covers.
The lease for the full building lasts till May 2033, at a rent of £110,000 per year.
