York-based train operator East Coast has won a national marketing award for its use of digital technology to attract new customers to its service.
The company picked up the Performance Marketing prize jointly with media agency Havas Media at The Digitals, which celebrate excellence in digital marketing and e-commerce.
Irish comedy star and TV’s Mock the Week presenter Dara O’Briain presented the awards at a ceremony in London.
East Coast’s entry beat household names including Tesco, Waitrose, BT, T-Mobile and The Body Shop to win the award.
“We’re delighted to win this award for our real-time pricing digital activity, which promotes services with spare capacity to customers via the East Coast website,” said East Coast head of marketing Natalie Cowen. “In just six months, our innovative approach generated an additional £5.4 million in revenue.
“It’s especially pleasing that the awards judges have recognised that in an industry which is sometimes perceived as being behind the times, we are leading the way with our digital marketing activity.”
The Digitals awards are in their second year, and are run by Econsultancy, a leading digital marketing best practice community and publisher.
