A stylish new shop is about to open in York city centre – run by a York couple who love the city.
Rise & Shine Living sells gifts, homeware and beauty products. Its first shop opened in South Molton, Devon.
They couldn’t have travelled much further to open shop number two – which opens on Fossgate this Saturday (November 3). So why choose York?
“My boyfriend is originally from York and we met at Leeds Beckett University. We both love the city and felt like it would be the perfect place to open a shop,” said Jessica Heyland.
A family affair
She and boyfriend Seb Murgatroyd, a former Huntington School student, are running the shop. Jess’s mum Sue founded the business.
“My mum opened the shop Rise and Shine Living down in North Devon a year and half ago,” Jess told YorkMix.
“I have helped my mum since the beginning of the business and my boyfriend and I decided this summer to open a second shop in York.”
The pair will run the York branch while Jess continues to study for her masters at Leeds Beckett.
Jess added:

We have a wide range of different products and we have aim to stock as many different brands that help to support other small British independent companies and help people live more sustainably.

The shop is at number 44 Fossgate, the former home of Long Tall Sally, and adds to the street’s burgeoning indie feel.
