What places make you smile?
A survey has discovered the happiest views in Britain – and one of them is right here in York.
While Broadsands beach on Devon’s Exmoor coast has been voted the scene that fills Brits with the most joy, only one street makes the top ten – Shambles.
It came in ninth in the list, compiled by Best Western Great Britain. The survey asked 2,000 Brits to choose their top five views which most make them smile, before exploring how well these correlate with the locations they’ve actually visited.
And while Shambles was chosen by 14% of those asked, it came top as the most visited in the top ten. Altogether 31% of people had visited the medieval street, more than twice as many as any of the other choices.
