Armed police descended on a York street this afternoon.

Officers sealed off Grosvenor Terrace at its junction with Bootham. The street reopened at about 1.40pm.

Police were focusing their attention on one three-storey house about halfway down Grosvenor Terrace.

Armed officers and police with dogs were seen near the property.

The police helicopter has also flown over the scene.

Residents were barred from entering the street for about an hour. They have now been allowed to return.

One resident said they believed the incident was connected to a domestic dispute involving a couple who live in the house.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said:

  • Police were called at 10.45am Thursday 19 December 2019 to a report of violence at a property on Grosvenor Terrace in York.

Police attended the scene and the road was closed at the junction of Bootham Terrace to allow officers to deal with the incident.

No arrests have been made at the time of reporting.
