Officers blocked the entrance and exit to the car park opposite York Theatre Royal.

Witnesses told YorkMix they saw armed officers at the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the operation was in response to an incident in Union Terrace.

She said:

  • Shortly after 2pm today (20 May) we received reports of an altercation on Union Terrace, York.

Officers attended and a 30 year old man has been arrested.

The road wasn’t closed. All police have now left the scene.
