City of York council is encouraging jobseekers and residents in Acomb wanting to improve their skills and qualifications to visit a jobs fair at Acomb Explore on Wednesday 11 September.
The event, which runs between 10am and 2pm has been organised through partnerships between City of York Council, Learning City York, Job Centre Plus and the Acomb Village news aims to bring together local employers and local residents to offer advice as well as employment opportunities.
This event precedes the city centre York Jobs Fair on October 1st and will offer a more personal and informal local ward level event for residents to come along for a chat and a coffee.
There will be several employers present along with learning providers and other agencies offering free help and advice for people to improve their skills and help them in their search for employment.
Cllr James Alexander, Labour leader for City of York Council said: “This local ward jobs & opportunities discovery day is a great opportunity for residents to view current employment opportunities.
“The recent Jobseekers figures showed unemployment levels in York to buck the national trend by recording a fall, however there is still work to be done in helping residents find employment and events such as this are an important part of the work to secure jobs and growth.”
Employers attending the fair include: City of York Council, Bluebird Care Heritage Health, and Ricall Carers.
The event will also contain stalls for some of the city’s training providers and employment support agencies including: Job Centre Plus York College, The York Apprenticeship Partnership, Higher York, Babcock (National Careers Service) CITB and York Learning (formally Adult Ed, Future Prospects and York Training Centre).
