It’s Macmillan Charity Raceday at York, combining spectacular Saturday sport with raising huge amounts of lolly for a good cause (£8 million so far). The big race of the day is the £100K Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint, and there’s a charity auction with lots of great, er, lots.

This year they have the supremely talented Sally Wainwright, who created Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax and Gentleman Jack – shot partly in York – revealing insider info on the industry.

Summer’s here (it is, honest) and that’s a good enough excuse for those Bishy Roaders to throw a party. With music, food, stalls and games it’s a family favourite.
