Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge
The Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge is an hilarious go-cart race down York’s finest street. Fifty teams will be racing their home made soapbox carts down the steep cobbles. Throughout the day there’ll be street food, bands and entertainment for the little ones, so join the crowds and come and support this fantastic event. More here.
York’s comic-con is back at the racecourse on Sunday with a new name and big stars from the world of sci-fi and fantasy. From Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy, who played the seventh Doctor, and Sophie Aldred who played his companion Ace, team up again, while Jeremy Bulloch, better known as Boba Fett, is one of the Star Wars stars in attendance. Fresh from their triumph with Little Shop Of Horrors, York Orchard Theatre Company brings Rent to the Grand Opera House. Loosely based on the Puccini opera La Bohème, this rock opera tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City’s East Village. WW2 Living History Weekend
Re-enactment groups UK Homefront and the Frontline Association will be portraying British and German troops as well as civilians at Eden Camp. Delve deep into life in the war years this Saturday. More here.
It’s A Knockout
A crack team from York Brewery are in training to ensure they retain their crown in the annual It’s a Knockout tournament, held to raise funds for St Leonard’s Hospice. The team will be taking on all-comers in a variety of fun, challenging games on Knavesmire, based on the old TV series. On Sunday from 10.30am – more here.
Festival of Flowers
