York Ice Trail
York will offer a frosty reception to visitors this weekend, in the best possible way. Thirty frozen sculptures are dotted around the streets for the first city-wide Ice Trail. There are competitions and ice carving demonstrations all weekend – more here.
It may be Dame Berwick Kaler’s 37th panto for York Theatre Royal, but everything has changed this year. Berwick and the gang have been rehoused at the National Railway Museum for Dick Whittington & His Meerkat, and it’ll be fascinating to see how they adapt to the new space. More familiar surroundings for the cast of Jack And The Beanstalk at the Grand Opera House. Both shows have started runs which take them into January – more here.
York Interior & Gift Fair
Traders, artists and makers take to the elegant interior of the De Grey Rooms for this Rose & Brown Vintage fair. Expect interiors, contemporary design, vintage and handmade gifts, plus workshops. Saturday, 11am-4pm – more here.
The York Minster Choir are joined by internationally renowned soloists this Christmas for a special performance of Handel’s Messiah in the beautiful Nave. Could there be a better way to celebrate Christmas? On Saturday at 7pm – more here.
Prop Art Exhibition
As excitement builds ahead of the new Star Wars movie, head down to the Basement to enjoy MovieMania’s first public exhibition. Amalgamating popular culture with contemporary art, they will be showcasing original movie props – which might make someone a unique Christmas gift. On Saturday and Sunda, 10.30am-5pm – more here.
