Dragon Boat Race
Thirty-six teams, a river and the Hawaii 5-0 theme: the 14th York Rotary Annual Dragon Boat Challenge adds up to a great day out. There are prizes for the best fancy dress as well as the fastest oarsmen and women, and loads of stalls and entertainment – from 10am on Sunday – more here.
York Early Music Festival
Talented musicians from around the world are in York for the next week for this sparkling annual festival. Inspired by the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the theme this year is Fairies, Witches And Aerial Beings. At venues across York every day till July 16. More here.
It’s not every community summer fair that bags the former frontman of a top ten UK rock band as the headline entertainment, but the Grovestock is not your average community event. As well as former Seahorses singer Chris Helme, the event at Park Grove Primary School on Saturday boasts a disco, craft, stalls and donkeys. Find out more here
Beers, Love and Blues Festival
Two days of beers and music at the Woolpack start on Saturday night with the You Set The Scene DJs spinning tunes from the 60s through to today and a special guest set from Love guitarist Johnny Echols. And Sunday afternoon sees a performance from rockers The Blueflies. More here.
