Family Raceday at York Racecourse
Marmalade-mad movie star Paddington Bear makes his debut (though not as a competitor) at this year’s Press Family on Sunday. There are seven races, an interactive racing zone and bouncy castles. Under 18s go for free. More details here.
The Forever Young Music Festival
Big Ian’s Forever Young Music Festival is raising money for the charities Age UK and St Leonard’s Hospice. Artists playing at the unusual venue of the Grimston Court Residential Care Home on Saturday include Heather Findlay, Beth McCarthy, Boss Caine and Steve Cassidy, plus there are lots of activities the whole family can get involved in. With stalls selling clothes and more from the 1920s up to the 80s, there is something for every vintage taste as the fair returns to the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall on Sunday. Beningbrough bulb planting
Back in February, people of all ages helped plant tens of thousands of snowdrops at Beningbrough Hall as part of its 300th birthday celebrations. Now everyone’s invited back to help finish the job, planting narcissi and crocuses every weekend in September. More here.
Mad Catter’s Tea Party
The York Cats Protection Adoption Centre on Huntington Road has reopened after biggest face-lift the centre has seen in 20 years, and everyone’s invited to join in the celebrations this Saturday. There will be food, drinks, stalls selling local products including the Cat Gallery and Shared Earth and much more – plus, the chance to see the new-look centre up close. More.
Allied Forces Memorial Day
This year’s Allied Air Forces Memorial Day on Sunday looks set to be bigger than ever, with several flypasts and air displays at the Yorkshire Air Museum. It promises to be both and exciting and memorable day, with representatives of air crews from as far afield as Finland, Russia and the United States attending, alongside British veterans and families.
