After the spectacular fun of the early fireworks display by Kaboom at Castle Howard, it’s time for the Bonfire Night celebrations.
In the city that brought you the top gunpowder plotter Guy Fawkes, there are a few to choose from.
Here’s our guide to the bonfires and fireworks displays in York and further afield. We’ve listed the York Maze display for those who have already got tickets, but for the rest of us it is sadly sold out.

York
Rawcliffe Country Park

Includes a bonfire and fireworks display, food and drink, fairground rides, a display of fire service equipment, stalls and live music on stage.
This event is put on by the Fire Fighters Charity, and aims to reduce the number of bonfire night related accidents and injuries whilst raising funds for serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.
Poppleton
The Poppleton Centre, Main Street, Nether Poppleton, York YO26 6JT

A huge bonfire, a hog roast and plenty of fireworks – that’s the Poppleton promise.
Gates open at 5pm, the bonfire’s lit at 7pm and after the fireworks there’s live music till 9pm.
Admission is by advance ticket only, and there’s no on-site parking.
York Maze
Already sold out, for those with tickets this promises a big bonfire and fireworks choreographed to a music soundtrack of hit songs.
York St John University
York St John University sports fields, Haxby Road, New Earswick, York YO31

Free
York St John University is in its 175th year and this free fireworks display is part of the celebrations.
It kicks off at 6pm, with the firework display starting around 6.45pm. There are food stalls, and live music. This is a no alcohol event, so don’t try and bring any booze.

As well as the fireworks there’ll be fairground attractions and food and drink.
Bishopthorpe

Lots of fun for all the family, with a bonfire, food, tombola and raffles.
Tickets available from the Ebor Inn.
Dunnington
Featuring a bonfire, fireworks and live music, this is a family friendly event.
The bonfire is lit at 5.30pm, there are quiet fireworks at 5.40pm and the fireworks start at 6.30pm.
