A man lost his finger in an accident by a railway track in York.
Firefighters from Acomb were called out to assist an ambulance crew rescue the man from beside the track at Fairfax Croft, Copmanthorpe just before 1am on Saturday (August 20).
The man had climbed over the fence and got stuck. The fire crew used ladders to get him back onto the right side of the fence.
A spokesperson for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
A triple extension ladder was used to rescue the male into care of ambulance personnel when it was discovered he had severed a finger.
Fire crews, along with Network Rail were tasked with searching the embankment but the digit could not be found.
A thermal imaging camera and lighting was also used. But after an hour they gave up the search.
