We bring you nine more great places to go for a cocktail in York, and nine fabulous cocktails to go with them!
1. Monkey 47
Sutlers, the bar and kitchen on Fossgate, has just launched its brand new cocktail menu. It features a number of coffee-based concoctions, including the After 8 (dark rum, Crème de Cacao, Crème de Menthe, Gomme, cream). Which sounds very moreish…
But we are equally eager to try Sutlers’ new selection of dry martinis from around the world. Apparently the Monkey 47 hails from Germany and is served with pink grapefruit peel…
2. The Big Lebowski
Well known for its food, Kennedy’s on Little Stonegate it also serves some classic cocktails, perfect to lubricate a chat with friends. They also have jazz on Sundays and £15 bottles of Prosecco on Fridays.
The Big Lebowski contains Kettle One vodka, Tia Maria cream and milk and is £6.50.
3. Bahama Mama

— Turtle Bay (@Turtlebayuk) April 1, 2016
Caribbean-themed Turtle Bay features rum, reggae and jerk in a cool, busy bar that has heaps of atmosphere.
Cocktail-wise, we’ve gone all fruity with Bahama Mama – Koko Kanu, banana liquor, pineapple and grenadine.
All cocktails are available 2-4-1 during happy hour all day every day, which is 12-6.30pm and then 9.30pm to the close of play.
4. Creamy Martini
We’re not sure what the future holds for Havana with the big plans for Stonebow House revealed by YorkMix last month.
We hope it will find a way to stay trading as with good value food and great cocktails, it is perfect for partying and drinking and dancing the night away.
They have an extensive cocktail list and you can get most cocktails in a jug for about £15. Try the Creamy Martini: Baileys, amaretto and banana liqueur mixed with milk and cream and served in a chocolate-coated glass.
Alcohol for pudding? Perfect at £4.75.
5. Rainbow
The first floor of the Lucia Wine Bar & Grill on Swinegate is renowned for its low funky beats, tasty cocktails, and great nights with friends. Downstairs you can enjoy some lovely unique dishes, but upstairs is where the magic happens!
Try a Rainbow, which contains vodka, coconut liqueur, peach schnapps, blue curacao, grenadine, orange and pineapple juice… you guessed it, it’s a rainbow coloured cocktail.
It’s priced at £5.25 but head out on Tuesdays where all cocktails are £3.
6. Tijuana Tipple
New kid on the block Las Iguanas on Back Swinegate has high hopes of being a top cocktail setting. With a rooftop bar, 2-4-1 all day everyday on certain cocktails, and Latin American food, it’s going to be hard to leave.
The Tijuana Tipple contains Olmeca Tequila, Funkin Guava puree, chilli, lime and Freixenet cava for that bit of heat.
They’re £7.95 each or 2-4-1 with the same cocktail.
7. Marzipan Martini
The trendy and spacious Biltmore on Swinegate has a resident DJ every Friday and Saturday night from 9.30pm to put a beat to your night out.
From its extensive cocktail list is the Marzipan Martini, made from cariel, Chambord, pineapple, apple and lemon.
It’s priced at £7.95 however don’t miss their happy hours: Sunday-Friday 3pm-7pm, Thirsty Thursdays noon-9pm, and fab Fridays 5pm-10pm.
8. The Sazerac
The Nook is a quirky café and bar that serves food and some great cocktails! Hidden away on Castlegate, next to The Blue Boar pub, it often has open mic nights and entertainment and is great for nights drinking or a bite to eat while shopping.
Cocktails come in four different pricing levels: £3 for those such as Tom Collins or Bramble, £5 for those such as a Dark & Stormy or Caipirinha, £6 for Mojitos and Bloody Marys.
But of course, we recommend the £8 ones. Like the Sazerac: rye whisky, bitters, lemon twist, absinthe and a sugar cube…
9. Flying Scotsman
To celebrate the return of the amazing Flying Scotsman loco, the all-new Chapter House bar at the iconic Royal York Hotel launched its own version.
The Flying Scotsman cocktail is served in an enamel cup. The cocktail is made using Slingsby gin, which is distilled in Harrogate, and infused with lychee liqueur, lemon juice and agave syrup.
Larger batches are served in billy cans, a traditional piece of equipment used by train workers from years gone by.
It is priced at £8.75 for one cup or £30 for the billy can which serves five.
Happy drinking!
